The Best Free Reverb Plugins for Logic Pro

Ten outstanding free reverb AU plugins that work perfectly in Logic Pro — from lush halls to vintage spring emulations.

Logic Pro ships with Space Designer — one of the best convolution reverbs on the market. But there''s a thriving ecosystem of free AU reverb plugins that can add character, colour, and creativity Logic''s stock tools can''t match. We tested dozens of free reverb plugins against Logic Pro on an M2 MacBook Pro. These ten earned a permanent spot in our project templates.

What to look for in a reverb plugin

Before diving in: the best reverb for your project depends on the source material. Convolution reverbs (IR-based) sound realistic but can "glue" the source to the room too tightly. Algorithmic reverbs give you more creative control — size, decay, modulation, and pre-delay can be pushed in ways IR reverbs can''t. Look for Apple Silicon native support, low CPU overhead, and a sensible preset library. Modulation (chorus-like movement on the tail) separates the great from the average.

The best free reverb AU plugins

1. OldSkoolVerb (Voxengo)

The closest thing to a free professional algorithmic reverb. OldSkoolVerb emulates vintage hardware reverb units with exceptional warmth. The controls are minimal — just the way it should be. Apple Silicon native, very low CPU.

2. Tal-Reverb-4 (TAL)

A smooth, lush reverb with a built-in chorus on the reverb tail. Excellent for pads and strings. TAL''s plugins are a staple of the free plugin world and Reverb-4 is their best.

3. Dragonfly Room Reverb

Open-source, cross-platform, and genuinely excellent. Room sizes from tiny closets to huge halls. The "early reflection" controls give you precise placement of the source in the room.

4. MVerb

Unusual reverb topology — open-source with warm, organic modulation. Works brilliantly on synths and electronic elements where a clinical reverb sounds wrong.

Tips for using reverb in Logic Pro

  • Use sends, not inserts. Put the reverb on an Aux channel and route signals to it via sends. This preserves the dry signal and lets you control blend per track.
  • Low-cut the reverb return. Add a high-pass filter at 100–200Hz on the aux channel to stop low-end mud building up in the tail.
  • Pre-delay = perceived distance. 20–40ms of pre-delay separates the source from the reverb tail, keeping the direct sound upfront.

Wrapping up

You don''t need to spend money to get world-class reverb. Start with OldSkoolVerb and TAL-Reverb-4 — they cover 80% of use cases. Want to explore further? Browse our full reverb plugin directory — free and paid, AU and AUv3.
